Another day, another move

Today TechCrunch wrote about Google’s next step into the wonderous world of location by adding location features to Google Toolbar. It is interesting see Google’s location strategy in action as location finds it way across the board to services like Google Latitude, Google Maps, Google Toolbar and Google Earth. The mobile LBS hype passed due to the fact that the next Google didn’t emerge out of the choas and the big guys are paying attention to the big picture again.
MG Siegler from TechCrunch: “Google has been been working on location for a little while in the mobile space, but most users are still experiencing the web first and foremost through regular computer browsers.” This is something we at IRL Connect have been saying for a while and that is why we have focused on creating a central platform for LBS on the Web. The fact that most content today is not geotagged even when its created on the mobile shows just how much there is to gain. Google’s strategy looks like a distributed implementation of location instead of a centralized one like IRL Connect’s social geobrowser.
